This photograph was taken during the pandemic in one of the temporary “COVID hotels” designated for women experiencing homelessness. The result is a warm, vibrant portrait that celebrates resilience in a difficult time. The print is personally signed by the photographer. Jana Plavec is a documentary photographer trained at the Fotoacademie in Amsterdam. Her work has taken her across Europe, where she has documented the refugee crisis, marginalized communities, and the everyday realities of women without a home. Her portraits of families fleeing Ukraine earned her the UNHCR Award at Czech Press Photo 2023. She recently published Náhradka, a reportage book created with Barbora Postránecká, and collaborates with Czech and international media. Her work has been featured in multiple exhibitions. The proceeds from this auction go directly to supporting women experiencing homelessness who turn to the Prague-based organization Jako doma. Your generosity helps provide essentials like food, hygiene products, and clothing, as well as social work, employment support and help with finding stable housing.

We support women experiencing homelessness in Prague. Our goal is a society where everyone has the opportunity to live with dignity and where social and gender inequalities do not exist. We offer women in need material assistance (food, hygiene items, clothing), social support, and help returning to the job market and securing stable housing. Women without a home are invisible superheroines, and we stand by their side.
